COMMISSIONER’S
ADVISORY BOARD MEETING
APRIL 7, 2010
EAGLE HIGH SCHOOL
PRESENT: Terry Beck, Dave Hart,Paul Schaffeld, Kevin
Leishman, Darren Krzesnik, Gail Garwick, Gery McCarney, Tom Snook, Paula Koshuta,
Sarah Bruce, Rich Kriete,Kevin Rex, Dave Carson, and Jack Parker.
ABSENT: Russ Wright, Mike Farris, Heath Thomason, Scott
Orr, Larry Taylor, and Hank Brotzman.
Guests: Ted Pettet and Henry Hixson.
Minutes from 2-9-10 presented and approved; the financial
report was presented by Jack parker and approved as well.
Old Business: None.
New Business:
1.
Dave
Carson introduced Henry Hixson and Ted Pettet to present a proposal on behalf of
officials in the western part of the Third District (Oregon area) to establish
an officials association to to work with the OHSAA.
Henry suggested this would include more officials in play-off games.
Dave Carson asked what sports it would involve and was told everything
but volleyball and soccer. Paul Schaffeld pointed out that we already have the
Malhuer County Officials Association which has been set up for years.
Darren Krzesnik asked if the Oregon schools are upset with the status quo
and Tom Snook the Oregon rep said he had contacted each school and they were not
upset at all.
They did express concern about if changes are made what happens if there
are not enough officials. Ted
Pettet said that he just wanted to provide more opportunities for more
officials and that the balloting system for selecting play-off officials
may be skewed.

Scott Orr needs football schedules by the end of
the school year; both a hard copy and ScheduleStar.
3.
State Athletic Director
Meetings are next Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday (4/13-4/15).
Conference Reports:
Oregon-Tom Snook: Scott Bullock
(Huntington AD) wantsHuntington wanted to serviced by the 3rd
District.
1-A North-Paula Koshuta: Cascade
and Horseshoe Bend are staying in the Long Pin League and not joing the WIC.
1-A South-Larry Taylor-Nothing.
2-A-Kevin Rex: Nothing.
3-A-Dave Hart: Thanks to the
Baseball and Softball commissioners’ for a smooth start.
4-A-Heath Thomason: Nothing.
5-A-Mike Farris: Nothing.
Association Reports:
Officials –Rich Kriete: This will
be Rich’s last meeting; he is done as officials President; he believes Kip
Bryson (VP) will be the new President.
Mens-Russ Wright: Nothing.
Womens-Sarah Bruce: Winter sports
banquet in Wednesday night (4-8-09).
Commissioner’s Reports:
Football-Scott Orr: Nothing.
Soccer-Hank Brotzman: Nothing.
Volleyball-Gail Garwick: She
needs schedules , both a hard copy and ScheduleStar.
Baseball-Kevin Leishman: Weather
has been pretty good. Typically we
have 20-30 frosh games worked with 1 official; so far we have had none.
Softball-Gary McCarney: Things
are going good. Today is the first
day a game has had to be worked
with 1 man mechanics. We have 20
new officials.
Terry Beck told us that budget
cuts will be coming out in the next month.
We now voted to go into Executive
Session, took a short break, and
then we heard Paul Schaffeld end of season report as wrestling commissioner.
Then Darren Krzesnik came in and presented his end of season report as
basketball commissioner. Terry Beck
presented information about complaints about the softball commissioner; he has
asked for documentation about these complaints but has not yet received it.
Dave Carson said he was meeting with Gary and Bruce Lundgren (softball
director) after our meeting this morning.
We then voted to go out of executive session .
Paul Schaffeld turned in a letter
of resignation and announced he is retiring during his report so we accepted his
resignation. We voted to give Paul
and gift certificate for $100.00 and a plaque for his 35 years of service.
We will also need to hire a new wrestling commissioner in the next couple
of months.
The CAB voted to retain Darren
Krzesnik as basketball commissioner for next year.
Our next meeting is scheduled for
JUNE 8, 2010 AT THE MTC AT 9
AM.
